Diederik is currently completing his clinical practicum at Progress Valley, where he provides both individual therapy and counseling, as well as facilitates group sessions focused on co-occurring disorders, addiction recovery, and psychoeducation.
Prior to joining Progress Valley, Diederik worked for two and a half years at Fairview Riverside on an intensive inpatient unit for children and adolescents, and for one and half years at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul on their adolescent mental health inpatient unit. These experiences strengthened his trauma-informed lens and deepened his understanding of the complex needs of youth and families navigating mental health challenges.
Diederik holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a mental health emphasis and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in psychology through a dual licensure program for LADC and LPCC. His clinical approach integrates motivational interviewing, stages of change, and a collaborative, person-centered framework. He draws from strengths-based, humanistic, narrative, and mindfulness-based modalities to support clients in building insight, resilience, and meaningful change.
His special interest areas include recovery management, life transitions and stressors, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, personality and adjustment disorders, traumatic stress and trauma-related conditions, LGBTQ+ issues, generational trauma, and multicultural counseling.
He is passionate about supporting individuals in recovery through empathy, education, and evidence-based practices.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his fiancée and their dog, exploring local hiking trails and diving into creative writing projects. He’s also known for his love of coffee, a good book and a good podcast.
