Anger Management-Based Assessments
Our anger management assessments utilize a combination of evidence-based screening tools, diagnostic criteria, and clinical interviews to better understand the emotional and behavioral roots of anger.
Purpose of the Assessment
The goal is to explore:
- Underlying emotional experiences related to anger
- Habits, behaviors, and environmental triggers
- Mental health symptoms and co-occurring concerns
- Strengths and areas for growth
This comprehensive approach allows us to provide personalized recommendations and a clear path forward.
What to Expect
- A 1:1 session with a licensed mental health therapist
- Completion of screening tools, rating scales, and guided discussion
- Optional collaboration with professional or family supports (with consent)
- A summary of findings and tailored recommendations
Results & Recommendations
Following the assessment, individuals will receive a written summary outlining:
- Key insights from the evaluation
- Recommendations for therapy, group participation, or additional services
- Referrals may include Progress Valley offerings or external resources based on individual needs
Group Therapy Offerings
In addition to our Anger Management-Based Assessments, Progress Valley offers therapeutic group options designed to support emotional regulation, healing, and personal growth.
Our groups provide a safe, structured space for individuals to explore anger-related emotions, build coping skills, and connect with others, navigating similar experiences. Groups are facilitated by mental health professionals and incorporate evidence-based practices tailored to the needs of participants.
At Progress Valley, our anger management groups are designed to help participants:
- Understand the emotional and behavioral roots of anger
- Learn and practice evidence-based strategies (e.g., CBT, DBT, MRT)
- Improve emotional regulation and interpersonal skills
- Gain insight through peer connection and shared learning
Each group includes:
- Weekly 90-minute group sessions facilitated by mental health professionals
- Weekly individual check-ins to support personalized goals and progress
- Participant workbooks with guided exercises and psychoeducation
- Homework assignments to reinforce skills between sessions
- Optional collaboration with professional or family supports (with consent)
Our groups provide a safe, supportive space for individuals to explore anger-related emotions, build coping strategies, and connect with others navigating similar experiences.
Reclaiming Control – A Group for Men Building New Paths
Reclaiming Control is a virtual 10-week, trauma-informed, strength-based therapeutic group designed for men (18+) with a history of incarceration, probation, or domestic violence-related offenses.
Participants will:
- Learn to manage anger, stress, and high-risk situations
- Build communication and self-awareness skills
- Rebuild relationships and personal narratives
- Strengthen decision-making for reentry and beyond
- Confidential. Respectful. Supportive
Empowered Calm – Rooted and Rising
Empowered Calm is an in-person 10-week, trauma-informed, strength-based therapeutic group designed for female-identifying individuals (18+) interested in learning healthier ways to cope with anger.
Participants will:
- Recognize anger as a valid emotion and explore its psychological and physiological roots.
- Identify personal patterns and emotional triggers to better manage responses.
- Practice self-compassion, emotional validation, and healing techniques like forgiveness.
- Learn assertive communication strategies, including DBT’s DEAR MAN, to express needs clearly.
- Develop personalized coping strategies, set healthy boundaries, and design a sustainable emotional wellness plan.
Enrollment & Eligibility
Our anger management groups are offered on a rolling basis, allowing individuals to join at any time.
Completion of an Anger Management-Based Assessment is required prior to group enrollment.
This initial assessment helps us:
- Understand the individual’s goals and desired outcomes
- Explore the emotional and behavioral factors contributing to anger
- Ensure the group is an appropriate and beneficial fit
This process allows us to tailor recommendations and support each participant’s unique needs.
Group participation is flexible and based on individual progress. However, the recommended duration is 10 weeks to ensure participants experience the full range of weekly topics and therapeutic content. This is discussed during weekly individual check-ins.
